High Protein Snacks

As a general rule, I have a hard time eating enough protein.  I found this when I had to change my diet for gestational diabetes and other times in my life where I have needed to regulate carb cravings.




High Protein Snacks:


  1. string cheese (alone or wrapped with some deli turkey)
  2. almonds and a piece of fruit
  3. Peanut butter and cut fruit for dipping in it
  4. Meat dinner leftovers
  5. High protein slim-fast shake
  6. Ham roll-ups (appetizer with cream cheese and green onion)
  7. black bean salsa and corn chips for dipping
  8. hummus and veggies (its been years since I've had hummus, I need to buy some!)
  9. real cheese and crackers
  10. Peanuts and chocolate chips
  11. Hard-boiled egg
  12. Deviled eggs
  13. celery with peanut butter
  14. veggies dipped in a sour cream dip
  15. cottage cheese with fruit (canned pineapple with the juice is my fave)

  1. I'm all about high protein everything! I snack on coconut flakes, meat (oh, so much meat), cheeses, olives, nuts...

  2. I find it interesting that you are doing high-protein to help control your anxiety. My most recent therapist also had me on high protein for anxiety, but I thought she was unique in that approach. I had no idea it was more generally accepted. My favorite high-protein snack is Greek Yogurt. It is affordable at Costco. I buy the large plain Fage and then eat it with a little jam or agave stirred into it. I also buy whey protein at Costco and put a scoop into my smoothie every day. A piece of toast with peanut butter is a good snack too. And of course, cottage cheese is a staple. Good luck!

  4. Babybel mini's are great... original, light, and swiss. Often I'll add a beef stick.

    Greek yogurt (like Heather said). I like Oikos fruit on the bottom (black cherry is the best! yum!!).

  7. My go to breakfast was Peanut butter toast. For my bedtime snack, I loved chunks of cheddar cheese, wheat thins and melon.

    It is easy to tell what works if you test your blood sugar after every meal. You will see what causes spikes in the blood sugar and what doesn't.

    The best part about gestational diabetes was my beautiful baby girl. Second best, a 35 pound weight loss from pre-pregnancy to 6 week post-partum check-up.
